Clifford Illig is one of two billionaires created by Cerner, a $3.4 billion healthcare IT services company. He and cofounder Neal Patterson first conceived the Kansas City-based company in 1979 while studying for the public accountant's exam in a park. By 1986, they had raised $3 million and were booking $17 million in revenue. Cerner has since grown significantly, managing 150 million health care transactions per day, and Illig remains vice chairman of the board. He and Patterson also own a stake in Major League Soccer team Sporting Kansas City, valued at $108 million.
